Mr. Sides graduated Cum Laude in 1981 from California State University, Chico, with a B.S. in Accounting. He received his Masters Degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, in the spring of 1991 and actively pursues continuing education in the areas of audit (both governmental and private sector businesses), taxation, real estate, and computer science.

Mr. Sides started his career in 1981 with the "Big 8" accounting firm, Deloitte, Haskins and Sells, where he was an Audit Senior. in 1983, Mr. Sides joined the "Big 8" firm of Coopers and Lybrand as an Audit Supervisor and subsequently moved into the areas of real estate and construction taxation.

In 1986, Mr. Sides formed Sides Accountancy Corporation and in January 2005 the firm became Sides & Ferkovich Accountancy Corporation. The firm prides itself on being a full-service CPA firm, emphasizing audit (both compliance and financial), tax planning, goal setting for growth oriented companies, and tax preparation for businesses and individuals. Currently, the client base includes land developers, contractors, retailers, professionals, software developers, governmental entities and manufacturers.

The firm has performed review services for manufacturers; software development houses, auto dismantlers, and real estate related ventures. The firm has been selected twice for financial statement compliance reviews by the State Board of Accountancy and in both instances received excellent reviews.

Mr. Sides' commitment to providing his expertise has not only served to benefit his clients, but has benefited the community as well. Mr. Sides has served as a lecturer at California State University, Chico, and California State University, Sacramento and has been the featured speaker at several real estate seminars. He has also instructed continuing education courses for CPAs, attorneys, and enrolled agents.

His commitment to the community is evidenced by the many awards he has won and board positions he has held. In 1988 Mr. Sides was nominated as Citrus Heights' Businessman of the Year. In both 1988 and 1990, Mr. Sides won the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce President's Award for outstanding contributions as Treasurer and Board Member of the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce. He was the 1992 and 2006 President of the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce. As a very active Chamber member, he continues to serve on numerous committees in various capacities. In addition, he has served as President of the Sacramento County Chamber of Commerce, held all elected positions of the Sunrise Citrus Heights Kiwanis Club and remains active in numerous other business and professional organizations.

Marcia graduated from California State University, Sacramento in June of 1995 obtaining a B.S. in Accounting. Her professional career commenced at Sides Accountancy Corporation where she began immediately after graduation.

In January 2005 in recognition of her commitment to the philosophy and growth of the firm and her experience in tax and accounting, Ms. Ferkovich became a partner (shareholder) in the firm. As such she has overall responsibility for numerous clients and projects encompassing business and tax planning, financial statement preparation and analysis. Ms. Ferkovich enjoys working with clients at all levels from bookkeeping training and support through tax planning, tax return preparation, and numerous other business consulting engagements.

Prior to returning to school to realize her personal goal of becoming a CPA, Marcia was the Vice President of Operations for a cable television operator. Her responsibilities included day-to-day operations, construction project management, implementation of marketing programs, and managing capital and operating budgets. Her efforts resulted in increasing both cash flow and profit. As a member of the corporate management team she was responsible for evaluation of potential acquisitions, negotiation of mergers, and disposition of divisions.

To enhance her hands on knowledge of accounting, while attending college she worked for various small businesses as a controller/office manager. She was instrumental in converting several manual accounting systems to computer based, in addition to establishing accounting policies and procedures.

Marcia's hands-on accounting and business experience provides an excellent foundation for superior client support and service in the public accounting field.

Shivaan graduated from California State University, Sacramento in December of 2005, obtaining a B.S. in Accounting. She began her professional career at Sides & Ferkovich Accountancy Corporation immediately after graduation.

As a valuable member of Sides & Ferkovich Accountancy Corporation, Shivaan is proactive in staying abreast of current developments in the business environment and specifically the tax field. Her commitment to learning gives her the necessary knowledge to provide the best services to clients.

While attending college Shivaan worked as a student intern at the Franchise Tax Board in Sacramento. She had a supervisory role reviewing both individual and corporate state tax returns. Shivaan worked under and communicated directly with the senior auditors. This gave her an excellent opportunity to learn more about different state tax programs as well as how the system works behind the scene.

During college Shivaan also worked as a student teacher assistant, primarily teaching general education to elementary school students. She gained general work experience from this position as well as good communication skills.

In addition to work, Shivaan was also a member of California State University, Sacramento’s honorary clubs. She benefited from the Accounting Society greatly, participating in numerous events that enhanced her knowledge of accounting and general business and also provided many networking opportunities.

Shivaan was recognized for her excellent academic performance by being listed in the Dean’s Honor Roll several times. Shivaan passed the CPA exam in 2007 and is currently in the process of obtaining her Master Degree in Taxation.
